Media Information
Fa(c)t: One in three children in the United States is overweight or obese. As the media bemoan the epidemic of obesity—Oprah and Ellen adding their voices of concern as The Biggest Loser features a 400-plus pound teenager—the once silent epidemic has quickly gained a strong voice.
In her new book, The No-Diet Obesity Solution for Kids, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta gastroenterologist Miriam Vos, MD, sends a positive yet firm message of hope for parents and children struggling with childhood obesity. While treatment plans for obese children often focus on weight goals, the words "diet" and "pounds" are notably absent from Dr. Vos’ treatment plans. Through her research-proven methods for reversing and preventing childhood obesity, Dr. Vos addresses issues that are rarely discussed, such as tips for catering to siblings with highly dissimilar eating habits, changes that fit into busy lives and including the whole family.
The fruits of Dr. Vos’ research are prime fodder for profile, as is her vow to "practice what you teach." That methodology (literally) lays ground for a sneak peak at Dr. Vos' personal health, whose backyard is home to a family of chickens that delivers a weekly supply of organic eggs, a staple in Vos’ diet.
Both Dr. Vos and patients who have successfully followed her treatment plans to good health are available for interview. Please consider featuring Dr. Vos, her new publication and/or a successful Dr. Vos case study.
